For ISELP, TMML conceived a ‘common standardized pattern’ called LE SPI. Sanders and Noël teamed up for this particular project with architects Wim Goossens and Arnaud Hendrickx as well as graphic designer Harrisson. Although LE SPI was never realized, the project marked an important development in TMML’s oeuvre and in their search for integrated art projects and collabor ations with people from different backgrounds. LE SPI stemmed from two investigations running in parallel that were initiated by TMML: the fi rst on the ISELP building and the second on public space. LE SPI, an anagram of ISELP, took shape in the figure of a hexagon and an oak leaf and expressed itself in numerous elements that defined the image of the art institute ISELP: labels and logos but also curtains, lamps, furniture, and so on – all the necessary accessories and tools for an arts centre to function properly. LE SPI also included an architectural intervention, and TMML chose to return to the shell with a total restructuring of the space and with great attention to the glass elements – existing windows, stage walls, mirrors of the infrastructure cells, etc. LE SPI also included a new logo and graphic package for ISELP and built in space for collaborations: artists who had exhibited or worked at ISELP over the years were encouraged to integrate their process into that of the exhibition or the creation of a work.
